2 Chainz (real name Tauheed Epps) was born on 12 September 1977 in Georgia. In 1997, Epps (under the pseudonym Tity Boi) and his friend Dolla Boy created a hip-hop duo called Playaz Circle. In 2002, the duo released an independent album United We Stand, United We Fall. Their work caught the attention of a DJ and rapper Ludacris. He worked with the group on several of their tracks and then aired them on his radio station. Soon Epps signed a contract with Ludacris’ label.
In October 2007, Playaz Circle released their debut LP Supply & Demand. One of the songs from the album "Duffle Bag Boy" became a local hit. The second studio LP Flight 360:The Takeoff came out in September 2009.
In 2011, Epps decided to go solo and changed his pseudonym to 2 Chainz since some people found Tity Boi discriminative toward women. As 2 Chainz, Epps presented a new mixtape T.R.U. REALigion. It was his first project to enter music charts.
The artist was becoming more and more popular. Many organizers were hoping to book 2 Chainz for their events. Besides, such famous musicians as Niki Minaj and Kanye West invited Epps to participate in their projects. 2 Chainz appeared in Niki’s "Beez in the Trap" and West’s "Mercy". The latter song was twice nominated for BET Awards and earned a prize at BET Hip Hop Awards.
In May 2012, Epps released the first single from the upcoming album. “No Lie” featured Drake. The song was nominated for a BET Award in 2013. In August, the LP Based on a T.R.U. Story came out and immediately topped Billboard 200. Later it became platinum.
By the end of 2012, Epps was nominated for 2 Grammys for "Best Rap Album" (Based on a T.R.U. Story) and "Best Rap Performance"(“Mercy). The Source magazine called 2 Chainz the man of the year.
In May 2013, Epps appeared in one of the episodes of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit on NBC. He also had a role in CBS TV series 2 Broke Girls.
In 2013, the rapper released his second studio LP B.O.A.T.S II: Me Time. It reached the 3rd spot on Billboard 200 and the 2nd spot on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. The promotional single "Where U Been?" topped Bubbling Under R&B/Hip-Hop Singles.
In May 2014, 2 Chainz released an EP, FreeBase, which was available online for free downloading.
At the beginning of 2016, the artist released another EP Felt Like Cappin, which featured Lil Wayne in the single "Back On That Bullshit". In March, Epps presented he 3rd studio LP ColleGrove, which reached the 4th place of Billboard 200.
In 2017, 2 Chainz released another LP, Pretty Girls Like Trap Music, which reached the second spot of Billboard 200. The lead single "Good Drank" received a gold certificate. The third single "4 AM" became platinum.
The fans of 2 Chainz are expecting to see his 5th studio album Rap or Go to the League in 2018.
