BTS – also known as Bangtan Boys – Korean k-pop band
In 2010, Big Hit Entertainment started auditioning young men to create a boy band. Two years later, they approved seven candidates, called the group “BTS”, and initiated a major advertisement campaign in social media. They also started recording cover versions of big hits and uploading them to SoundCloud and YouTube.
The band BTS officially debuted in June 2013 by releasing their first single album 2 Cool 4 Skool along with its lead single "No More Dream". The song became an overnight hit and reached high spots on many international charts. It made it to the 14th place of Billboard World Digital Songs just two weeks after the release and stayed there for 21 days in a row. The single album reached the 5th spot on the Korean Gaon Weekly Album Chart.
In September, BTS landed the starring roles in the comedy show Rookie King Channel Bangtan, which aired on the SBS MTV channel. A few weeks later, the boy band presented an EP O!RUL8,2? , which was the second part of their Skool series. The record debuted on the 4th place of Gaon Album Chart. By the end of the year, the EP fell to the 55th position but didn’t leave the chart. In 2013, Bangatan Boys received a variety of awards and nominations as best new artists.
In February 2014, the band released the last part of the Skool trilogy called Skool Luv Affair. The album immediately topped Gaon Album Chart and sold over 200,000 copies. The EP reached the 3rd spot on World Albums Chart. In April, the group released a Japanese version of their first single album 2 Cool 4 Skool. In the summer, BTS performed at the Los Angeles music festival KCON. At about the same time, they presented the first studio album Dark & Wild. The LP brought the band a prize at Golden Disk Awards 2015. At the end of the year, the group went on its first international tour of Southeastern Asia. Many fans all over the world wanted to book BTS for their events.
In December 2014, the band released its first Japanese album Wake Up. It reached the 2nd spot of Oricon (Japanese albums chart).
In 2015, the group added a few more chapters to their success story by releasing two EPs from the series The Most Beautiful Moment in Life. Both albums topped the Korean charts and reached high spots on Billboard World Albums Chart. The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Part 2 even made it into Billboard Hot 100, where it reached the 171st spot.
In the fall of 2016, BTS released their second Japanese album Youth, which topped the Japanese chart and was certified gold for 200,000 copies sold in Japan. In a couple of months, the group released another studio LP Wings. The album climbed to the 26th spot of Billboard 200 and showed record sales figures in Korea. The band received several awards at Mnet Asian Music Awards ceremony.
The next EP LOVE YOURSELF 承 `Her`(2017) debuted on the 7th spot of Billboard 200. It was the best result in the band’s history. The lead song “DNA” collected 20 million views on YouTube and reached the 67th place of Billboard Hot 100. Another single from this album “Mic Drop” anchored at the 28th spot. Both songs were certified gold by RIAA. By the end of 2017, the band earned many different awards, including Billboard Music Award as Top Social Artist.
