Dillon Francis — American DJ, producer, and one of the moombahton founders
Dillon Hart Francis was born on 5 October 1987 in Los Angeles.
In 2010, he met DJ and producer Diplo. Together they recorded a song “Que Que”, which featured a Latin singer Maluca. Later Dillon recorded “Masta Blasta” and stylized it to fit the moombahton style, which made the artist popular. The same year he signed a deal with Play Me Records and released his debut EP, Swashbuckler.
In 2011, Dillon recorded three EPs, Westside!, Ultra (with Cory Enemy), and Bossa Rocka. Together with Diplo, Francis released EP Que Que (Remixes).
In 2012, the artist recorded one more EP, Something, Something, Awesome, which became the first moombahton album to top Beatport Releases. The rest of the year Francis spent touring North America.
The year 2013, Dillon began by continuing to tour USA and Canada. He also announced the upcoming release of his debut LP. Francis recorded the single, "Without You" together with Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. The song reached the 37th spot on Billboard Dance/Electronic Songs.
The artist continued touring and giving concerts as well as performing at many festivals, including Coachella, Camp Bisco, Ultra, TomorrowWorld, Electric Daisy Carnival, and Electric Zoo. In September, MTV put Dillon on the list of “Artists to watch.” In October, the artist appeared on the 73rd position of the DJ’s Mag Top 100. Even though he wasn’t at the peak of the popularity just yet, many organizers wanted to book Dillon Francis for their events.
The breakthrough in the musician’s career was the single "Get Low" recorded together with DJ Snake. The song came out in February 2014 and conquered the world charts. It was especially popular in the UK and Australia. Billboard Hot 100 granted it the 61st position. "Get Low" was featured in the video games Just Dance 2015 and Forza Horizon 2 as well as in the crime thriller Furious 7. It earned platinum certifications in the USA and Canada.
In October 2014, Dillon presented his debut LP, Money Sucks, Friends Rule. It featured songs recorded together with such artists as DJ Snake, Major Lazer, Twista, and Martin Garrix, The LP debuted on the 40th spot on Billboard 200 and the 2nd position on Dance/Electronic Albums. It was also a big hit in Australia and the UK.
At the beginning of 2015, Dillon went on a USA tour. In August he presented one more EP, This Mixtape is Fire, in which he came back to moombahton. The music critics approved of this album. It topped Top Dance/Electronic Albums Charts and reached high spots on Australian, Canadian, and New Zealand charts.
In 2016, Francis started working on his second studio album. He released several singles, such as "Need You" (with NGHTMRE), "Anywhere" (with Will Heard), and "Say Less" (with G-Eazy). He also made a surprising decision and cancelled the contract with Columbia Records. Dillon announced his wish to record the music independently.
In 2018, the artist released two songs, "Ven" (with Arcangel & Quimico Ultra Mega) and "We the Funk" (with Fuego).
The presentation of Francis’s second studio LP, Less Nights, More Days, is planned for 2018.
