HAIM was formed by three Haim sisters, Danielle, Este, and Alana. They were born in Los Angeles in the family of music lovers, who enjoyed classic rock. All three girls wanted to become musicians since childhood. They performed with local groups and learned how to play different instruments. The first band they formed was called Rockinhaim. It performed at local fairs and charity events.
When Este and Danielle became older, they joined the group called The Valli Girls and signed a contract with Columbia Records to record soundtracks for the movie The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and the animated movie Trolls.
In 2006, older sisters left the group and decided to form a family trio. The third member was the youngest sister Alana. The three artists called their new band HAIM. However, they didn’t become successful immediately. Este decided to get an education at the University of California. Danielle traveled a lot. She was invited to become a guitarist for the American rock singer Jenny Lewis’ tour.
By 2012, the three sisters recorded an EP, Forever, which featured a mix of musical genres, including R&B, pop, and rock. Este was a bass guitar player. Danielle became a leading guitarist while Alana played the keyboards, drums and rhythm guitar. They also found a drummer to join them. Dash Hutton helped the girls record the debut EP.
