Two young women, Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo, formed Swedish electropop duo Icona Pop in 2010. They met at a party, became friends, and started writing songs together. The first EP, Nights Like This and single "Manners" came out in 2011.
In the spring of 2012, the duo recorded its most successful single “I Love It” together with the British singer Charli XCX. The producer was Patrik Berger, who used to work on Robyn’s hit “Dancing on My Own”. The single climbed to the 2nd spot of the Swedish chart and came in second on Billboard 200. In the United States, the song became very popular after its appearance on the HBO show Girls.
The song was a promotional single for the group’s debut album, Icona Pop. It also appeared in the video game Need for Speed: Most Wanted and the Coca-Cola Light ad. The second single from the debut LP, "Ready for the Weekend" came out in the summer. The album itself was released in October 2012. After its presentation, the group toured the UK, Italy, Germany, Sweden, China, and Canada.
