Iron Maiden is considered to be the most popular and the most important heavy metal band in the music history. It’s the only successful heavy metal band, which managed to become popular without the cheap stage effects and scandals.
The band was formed in 1975 by bass guitarist Steve Harris, who used to play for such unpopular bands as Gypsy’s Kiss and Smiler. Steve came up with the name of the band after watching the movie The Man In The Iron Mask. The band changed vocalists several times. These lineup problems weren’t making the success of the group any easier.
In 1978, the band recorded their first demo album The Soundhouse Tapes. They were planning to sell the tapes at the concerts. The demo album immediately sold 6000 copies, each one of them became a collectible item.
