LANY was formed in 2014 in Los Angeles. The lineup consists of Paul Jason Klein, Jake Clifford Goss, and Charles Leslie "Les" Priest.
Goss and Priest have been friends for a while, but they never thought about founding a joint project. Klein had his own group WRLDS, which didn’t manage to become successful. That’s why the young musician was thinking about leaving. At that time, he met Goss and Priest. Together they decided to form a new group, which got the name LANY. LANY stands for Los Angeles New York.
The first two singles recorded by the trio were "Hot Lights" and "Walk Away". Klein uploaded them to SoundCloud anonymously. He didn’t want the members of his old band to see his work. At the same time, Klein wanted to find out how successful the singles could become. The songs earned some attention on the internet and inspired the band to record a debut EP, Acronyms. The most popular song from the EP was "ILYSB". Later, the artists released two more interesting songs "Made in Hollywood" and "Bad, Bad, Bad". However, neither of them made it into the charts.
At the beginning of 2015, the group toured the USA. They worked as opening acts for such successful musicians as Tove Styrke, Halsey, Twin Shadow, X Ambassadors, and Troye Sivan. Right after coming back, LANY recorded one more EP, I Loved You. They performed several songs from the EP at the Lollapalooza festival.
