LANY – American indie-pop band

LANY was formed in 2014 in Los Angeles. The lineup consists of Paul Jason Klein, Jake Clifford Goss, and Charles Leslie "Les" Priest.

Goss and Priest have been friends for a while, but they never thought about founding a joint project. Klein had his own group WRLDS, which didn’t manage to become successful. That’s why the young musician was thinking about leaving. At that time, he met Goss and Priest. Together they decided to form a new group, which got the name LANY. LANY stands for Los Angeles New York.

The first two singles recorded by the trio were "Hot Lights" and "Walk Away". Klein uploaded them to SoundCloud anonymously. He didn’t want the members of his old band to see his work. At the same time, Klein wanted to find out how successful the singles could become. The songs earned some attention on the internet and inspired the band to record a debut EP, Acronyms. The most popular song from the EP was "ILYSB". Later, the artists released two more interesting songs "Made in Hollywood" and "Bad, Bad, Bad". However, neither of them made it into the charts.

At the beginning of 2015, the group toured the USA. They worked as opening acts for such successful musicians as Tove Styrke, Halsey, Twin Shadow, X Ambassadors, and Troye Sivan. Right after coming back, LANY recorded one more EP, I Loved You. They performed several songs from the EP at the Lollapalooza festival.

In December 2015, the trio finally signed a contract with a label. Together with Polydor Records, they presented the third EP, Make Out, which featured such songs as "Hot Lights" and "OMG". It’s worth noting that the songs were written even before the release of the previous EP. The old single "ILYSB", released on the official basis earned impressive popularity. It reached the 37th spot on Billboard Hot 100. At that time, many organizers tried to book LANY for private events. The trio often accepted.

In the summer of 2016, the band participated in several festivals, including Bonnaroo, Outside Lands, and Firefly. The same year, LANY arranged a headliner tour “Kinda Tour”. They visited 14 European and 37 American cities.

The same year, the artist released their 4th EP, kinda. It featured a successful track "WHERE THE HELL ARE MY FRIENDS", which appeared on top of Beats 1 rating. The trio also filmed a music video for the song. Over two years, the video collected 2 million views on YouTube.

In February 2017, the band performed with John Mayer on his tour "The Search for Everything Tour". Together they visit five cities in the USA and two in Canada.

In June 2017, the group announced their debut album, LANY. It featured such successful songs as "Good Girls", "It Was Love", "The Breakup", "13", and "Flowers on the Floor". The album climbed to the 4th spot on Top Rock Albums Chart, the 5th position on Top Alternative Albums, and reached the 32nd place on Billboard 200. The success was impressive. LANY earned international recognition. The album appeared on New Zealand, Australian, Belgian, Scottish, and UK charts. To support the LP, LANY toured Australia and Asia.

In April 2018, the band gave a concert at Smart Araneta Coliseum in the Philippines. The tickets to the concert were sold out within 24 hours. The musicians had to stay for one more day.

In March 2018, the artists announced the upcoming release of their second LP, Malibu Nights. They already presented two promotional singles, “Thru These Tears" and "I Don't Wanna Love You Anymore". The official release of the studio album is planned for October 5.
