Offset, whose real name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus, was born in 1991, in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The rapper was growing up in his aunt’s family with his cousin Quavo. Both enjoyed playing football in high school. However, during one of the games, Offset seriously hurt his foot. The injury put an end to his dreams of becoming a professional football player.
In 2009, after finishing high school, Offset and Quavo decided to form a hip-hop group. They were joined by Quavo’s nephew, Takeoff. In the beginning, the rappers chose Polo Club as the name for the group. Later, they changed it to Migos. In August 2011, the artists released the debut mixtape, which didn’t get noticed by the critics or rap fans.
In June 2012, the rappers worked on their second mixtape, No Label. It caught the attention of a famous producer Zaytoven. He started working with the team. By June 2013, the singers released a new mixtape Y.R.N. (Young Rich Niggas). It featured the work of such artists as Gucci Mane, Trinidad James, Riff Raff, and Soulja Boy. The album climbed to the 74th position of US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart. The single “Versace”, which came out in July was highly successful, reaching the 33rd spot of US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart. The same year, Offset was arrested and went to jail for violating parole, which he was under for breaking and entering.
