Soulshock & Karlin – Danish producers and songwriters duo

Soulshock & Karlin duo was formed in 1989 in Denmark. Its founders are Carsten Schack and Kenneth Karlin. The former is a record producer and DJ while the latter is a songwriter. The combination of the two talents allowed the duo to become famous all over the world.

Soulschock’s career began in 1989. He performed at a hip-hop club. Later, he got a chance to participate in the DMC Mixing contest in London. The DJ came in third. The real popularity came when Carsten was invited to work on the songs of such artists as Jungle Brothers, Queen Latifah, and Chill Rob G, as part of the European Tour. A while later, Schack appeared on KIIS-FM. The artist worked for a while in New York but then came back to Denmark. In 1990, he created his own label, Soulpower Productions and Records. He was looking for a keyboard player to continue with a special music project.

Initially, Karlin was a jazz music fan. He wrote lyrics and music and played different instruments. When Soulshock offered him a chance to work together, Karlin couldn’t refuse, even though it changed the way he approached music. The musicians formed an excellent tandem.

With time, the artists decided to leave Denmark and conquer the rest of the world. Their work was underappreciated in Europe where dance and house were much more popular. The duo moved to LA in the early 1990’s. In the United States, Soulshock & Karlin became famous.

In the 1990’s the musicians release numerous remixes. In 1991, they came up with the popular "Wanna Dance!" and "Love Rears Its Ugly Head" (Remix). In 1992, they surprised the fans with "Fly Girl", "All Day All Night" (Remix), "Casualties of War" (Remix), and "All Right Now". In 1993, the duo presented "For What It's Worth" and "Show Me". The next year, they created "I'm In the Mood", "Hit By Love", and "I Belong to You" (Remix). “Hit By Love” was CeCe Peniston’s song, which climbed to high spots on the charts. At that time, many artists tried to book Soulshock & Karlin for their events.

The year 1995 was very busy for the group. The artists released "Before You Walk out of My Life", "Come On" (Remix), "Me Against the World", "Hooked On You", and "Brokenhearted". In 1996, the duo worked with Madonna on the remix of "Love Don't Live Here Anymore”. In 1997, they worked with 2Pac and Toni Braxton.

In 1998, the duo collaborated with DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, and Whitney Houston. The next year they released "It's All About You (Not About Me)", "Give You What You Want", "You Don't Know", and "Still In My Heart". The latter reached high spots on the chart. In 1999, the duo worked on Whitney Houston’s “Heartbreak Hotel”. The single earned two Grammy nominations.

In the 2000’s, the musicians collaborated with numerous artists, including 2Pac, JoJo, Jamelia, Justin Guarini, JLS, Backstreet boys, and many more. They helped record such hits as Fantasia’s “Truth Is” and Usher’s “U Got It Bad”.

Between 2010 and 2016, the artists had a break, which they devoted to perfecting their styles and considering other performance options. However, they made a decision to continue working together. In 2016, they collaborated with H.I.M. to record “Ain’t She”.

Even though the duo has been working with numerous celebrities, they don’t mind collaborating with young talent. Their work is always in high demand among all players in the music industry, regardless of the success level.

Soulshock & Karlin are working hard to maintain their stellar reputation. They work on new songs and sometimes perform live.
