Solana Imani Rowe was born on 8 November 1990 in Saint Louis, Missouri. The mix of white American, Islamic, and African American roots gave the singer her special appearance, which includes beautiful curly hair and large lips. SZA is an abbreviation. S – means Solana, Z is zigzag, and A is Allah. Even though Rowe is Muslim, after 9-11 she refused to wear hijab. The girl was a rioter at heart, which later reflected on her songs.

Solana’s friend liked downloading music and sing together with her for fun. This friend recorded a couple of these singing sessions and uploaded them to the internet.
