Zayn Malik – British singer and songwriter

Zain Javadd Malik was born on 12 January 1993 in Bradford, West Yorkshire. The singer has a mixed heritage. His mother is part British and part Irish. His dad is from Pakistan. An excellent mix of genes allowed Malik to have an impressive appearance, which made numerous teenage girls his fans. Zayn has two older and one younger sister.

Malik attended Lower Fields Primary School and Tong High School. While in high school, he showed great interest in music. When Zayn was 15, he started boxing. For two years, he attended competitions and won awards at the local level. However, at 17, he stopped boxing and turned his attention to music. Even though Malik enjoyed R&B, hip-hop, and reggae, he didn’t plan to become a celebrity. The young man was thinking of getting a higher education and working as an English teacher.

When Zayn turned 17, he got a chance to perform at the famous talent show X-Factor. At the 7th season’s qualifiers, he sang Mario’s "Let Me Love You". Even though Malik didn’t make it to the finals, he was noticed by Nicole Scherzinger and Simon Cowell, who invited the young man to become a part of the band One Direction.

While Zayn Malik was part of the group, One Direction released four successful albums. After he left in March 2015, the group presented one more LP and went on an indefinite hiatus. Malik made a decision to pursue a solo career and his fellow group members seemed to support it. He gave one last concert with One Direction on 18 March 2015 in Hong Kong.

Right after leaving the band, Malik started working on his debut LP, Mind of Mine, which eventually came out in March 2016. The lead single from the album, “Pillowtalk” was a huge hit. The song earned an impressive number of platinum certificates all over the world. It topped many charts, including UK Singles Chart, Billboard Hot 100, and ARIA. Numerous organizers tried to book Zayn Malik for private events, but it was nearly impossible due to his formidable popularity and tough schedule.

The debut LP featured such hits as "It's You", "Befour", "She", "Intermission: Flower", "Drunk", "Rear View", "Fool for You", "Bordersz", "Lucozade", and "Truth". The song "Like I Would" became very successful in the USA, Australia, and the UK. It topped UK Albums Chart and Billboard 200.

In 2016, together with Taylor Swift, Malik recorded one of the soundtrack songs for the movie Fifty Shades Darker. The single earned many platinum statuses worldwide.

Several times, Malik appeared on the big screen. He played himself in such movies as Carly (2012), One Direction: This Is Us (2013), Where We Are – The Concert Film (2014), and Ocean's 8 (2018).

Malik is also showing his talent in the fashion industry. In 2016, he presented his own collection of Italian shoes inspired by Giuseppe Zanotti. In 2017, he signed a contract with Versace.

In 2017, Zayne recorded “Still Got Time” with PartyNextDoor and "Dusk Till Dawn" with Sia. The latter is supposed to be a promo single for the second studio album.

Right now, the artist is working on the new LP and performing live.
