Igor Shesterkin is a Russian professional ice hockey goaltender, celebrated for his quick reflexes, composure, and ability to make game-changing saves. Born on December 30, 1995, in Moscow, Russia, Shesterkin began his hockey journey in the youth system of Spartak Moscow. He quickly rose through the ranks and made his debut in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) as a teenager.
After spending time with Spartak, Shesterkin joined SKA Saint Petersburg, one of the KHL’s powerhouse teams. With SKA, he developed into one of the league’s top goaltenders, posting remarkable stats, including multiple seasons with a goals-against average under 2.00 and a save percentage over .930. His consistent performance in the KHL caught the attention of the NHL.
In the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, Shesterkin was selected in the fourth round (118th overall) by the New York Rangers. He made his highly anticipated NHL debut in January 2020 and quickly established himself as the team’s starting goaltender.
