  • The Pussycat Dolls (abbreviation PCD) is an American pop / R & B dance group, formed by choreographer Robin Antin in 1995 as a troupe dancing in burlesque style, established in Los Angeles.

In the early 90s, choreographer Robin Antin, known in the show business world for her work with The Offspring and No Doubt, formed her own dance troupe called The Pussycat Dolls. The girls began by performing cabaret-like numbers, rehearsing in the garage of actress Christina Applegate, friend of Robin Antin. As a result, Applegate arranged for the young band to perform at the prestigious Los Angeles club The Viper Room, owned by Johnny Depp. Depp's comment after their performance was allegedly the following: "That's why I opened my club!"

It took the girls not so long to become one of the most famous dance groups in Hollywood, tickets for their shows were always sold out in advance. The head of the troupe was the star of the TV series "Rescuers Malibu" Carmen Electra. Many celebrities queued up to be invited guests to The Pussycat Dolls parties. For several years, Pamela Anderson, Brittany Murphy, Scarlett Johansson, Paris Hilton, Charlize Theron, Kelly Osbourne, Pink and many, many others performed on the same stage with the girls. In 2000, their friend Gwen Stefani sang on the show at The Pussycat Dolls, after which Christina Aguilera did the same, and then Ricky Martin, who even asked one of the band members to accompany him on a world tour as a girl "La Vida Loca" ... However, none of the stars took The Pussycat Dolls to dance on a regular basis, so the girls sang themselves. Robin Antin began negotiations with various labels and came to the conclusion that a vocalist should be added to the lineup. This did not pose any particular difficulties for Robin, since there were precedents more than once, over the 10 years of The Pussycat Dolls existence 25 people have passed through the group. So, to date, The Pussycat Dolls are six girls: Jessica, Carmit, Ashley, Kimberly, Melody and soloist Nicole Scherzinger. While still a student, Nicole played leading roles in musicals, and later became a member of the girl's band, after the breakup of which she got into The Pussycat Dolls. Carmit is a retired professional gymnast who has choreographed and co-danced with Beyoncé, Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Michael Jackson and Ricky Martin. As part of The Pussycat Dolls, she can be recognized by her characteristic red hair color.

  • Ashley Roberts has been dancing since the age of three and sings in a voice similar to that of Marilyn Monroe. Jessica danced before The Pussycat Dolls in the Miami Heat basketball cheerleading team and was its captain. Robin Antin, noticing a pretty girl, invited Jessica to dance in a more promising troupe. Kimberly helps Robin Antin with choreography and costumes. Melody Thornton, unlike the rest of The Pussycat Dolls, has never learned to dance, but she has been endowed with a good voice since childhood. Once she saw the performance of The Pussycat Dolls with Christina Aguilera and thoroughly remembered it, which later helped her successfully pass the casting. Melody's singing talent in The Pussycat Dolls is naturally much more involved than dancing. In August 2005, the band's debut album was released, which was simply called "PCD". The song "Don't Cha", recorded in collaboration with Busta Rhymes, was chosen as the first single. The girls were delighted to work with this rapper, besides, the song displaced Madonna herself from the top lines of the charts. The Pussycat Dolls are often and reasonably compared to the Spice Girls, and the girls declare that they are not averse to becoming the same stars.

For over a year, PCD has been on the Billboard 100 Most Popular Albums, and this is an outstanding result. The disc, on which the best hip-hop producers worked, was supported by strong singles: "Don't Cha" with Busta Rhymes, "Beep" with will.i.am, "Buttons" with Snoop Dogg, "Wait A Minute" with Timbaland. A heap of awards and nominations crumbled under the feet of six women, women who put the sex in sextet (brought sex into their sextet). Despite popular misconceptions, the Pussycat Dolls are not just a fabricated group of non-singing girls from dancers. Though they are unlikely to add to the list of self-made groups.

The key moment was the addition of Nicole, a former member of girl group Eden's Crush, with the Pussycat Dolls. “We were very lucky to meet Nicole,” says Ron Fair. "The original lineup had girls with the right vocals, but we needed Nicole and Melody to expand the band's capabilities." However, there was still another challenge - to find the right balance between creativity and sexuality. “When we started working with the record label, things were very nervous,” says Antin. “Oh my God, we can't have girls wearing a fishing net signed. I had to work hard to prove to people who sit in their offices every day that these girls, even in their defiant clothes, will not look vulgar. "
