  • Fetty Wap’s real name is Willie Maxwell II. He was born on 7 June 1991 in Paterson, New Jersey. When he was a child, Willie was diagnosed with glaucoma. Eventually, he lost his left eye. Today, he is using a prosthesis, which is impossible to tell from a real organ.

Maxwell showed his interest in music when he was 22 years old. It’s considered rather late for the music industry, but it didn’t keep the artist from searching for fame. Even though Willie liked rap, he tried hard to find his own special style.

While still in search for perfect music, Willie began his career in 2014. Some of his early fans suggested he would take Fetty as a pseudonym. It was a jargon word for money, which Willie knew well how to earn. The word Wap appeared as a tribute to the rapper Gucci Mane’s album.

The artist debuted in 2014 with the song "Trap Queen", which was uploaded to the Internet in February. It took the public almost nine months to show its appreciation. The single was listened to over 130 million times on SoundCloud. With the assistance of a famous music industry attorney Navarro W. Gray, the musician signed his first contract with 300 Entertainment. He immediately started working with such artists as Kevin Liles, Lyor Cohen, Todd Moscowitz, and Roger Gold.

  • In 2015, Fetty released a hit single “679”, which earned seven platinum certifications in the USA and reached the 4th spot on Billboard 200. It was featured in Willie’s debut album Fetty Wap, which came out several months later. The LP consisted of 17 songs. The most popular ones were "Trap Queen", "How We Do Things", "I Wonder", "Trap Luv", and "My Way". Such musicians as Remy Boyz, Monty, and M80 were guests of the alum. In 2016, the album reached the 60th spot on Billboard 200, the 25th position on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, and the 17th place on Rap Albums. The next year it climbed much higher spots on the popular charts. The weekly Billboard and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums put the LP on top. It came in second on UK R&B Albums Chart. The album also appeared on French, Danish, New Zealand, Swedish, and Canadian charts. At that time, many fans tried to book Fetty Wap for their events.

In February 2016, the artist released a single “Jimmy Choo”. A few months later, he used it when creating a mobile game Nitro Nation Stories. Players could street race on expensive cars from BMW to Cadillac. The same year, Fetty worked with Fifth Harmony on a hit "All in My Head (Flex)". Soon he recorded a famous single “Wake Up”, which became platinum in the USA. The music video for the song was filmed at Fetty’s high school. The next single "Make You Feel Good" was due to become part of his next LP.

In November 2016, Willie released his new mixtape, Zoovier. It featured such popular songs as “RGF Island”, “No Days Off”, “YungLan Freestyle”, “No Type”, and “Spaceship.”

The next year, Fetty recorded several songs for his upcoming LP. None of them reached high spots on the charts, but they still have a chance of becoming popular when the album comes out in October 2018.

In 2017, Willie got a chance to test his modeling talent by participating in New York Fashion Week. In November, Willie was arrested for drunk driving and several other charges. So far, it’s unclear what the consequences will be for the singer.

In January 2018, Willie released an EP For My Fans III: The Final Chapter. In June, he presented a mixtape, Bruce Wayne.

Fatty Wap is working on new songs and performing live.
