  • The heavy metal band Iron Maiden was formed in London in 1975. The current lineup includes Steve Harris, Dave Murray, Adrian Smith, Brice Dickinson, Nicko McBrain, and Janick Gers. The band holds numerous awards, including 9 Metal Hammer Awards, a Grammy, and a BRIT award. Iron Maiden is mostly famous for such hits as “Can I Play With Madness”, Bring Your Daughter ….To The Slaughter”, and “The Number of the Beast (Live)”. Iron Maiden is considered to be the most popular and the most important heavy metal band in the music history. It’s the only successful heavy metal band, which managed to become popular without the cheap stage effects and scandals. The band was formed in 1975 by bass guitarist Steve Harris, who used to play for such unpopular bands as Gypsy’s Kiss and Smiler. Steve came up with the name of the band after watching the movie The Man In The Iron Mask. The band changed vocalists several times. These lineup problems weren’t making the success of the group any easier.

In 1978, the band recorded their first demo album The Soundhouse Tapes. They were planning to sell the tapes at the concerts. The demo album immediately sold 6000 copies, each one of them became a collectible item. In 1980, Iron Maiden released their debut LP Iron Maiden. It was an immediate success, reaching the 4th spot on the UK Albums Chart. A year later, the band released their second album Killers, which was less successful than the first LP. After the release, the band went on its first world tour. In 1982, Iron Maiden released their third studio album The Number of The Beast. The LP was a big hit and brought the band international recognition, reaching high spots on a variety of European charts. The singles from that album “Run to the Hills”, “The Number of the Beast”, and “Hallowed Be Thy Name” became hits in the UK and got to the high spots on the USA, Canadian, and ARIA charts. In the 1980’s the band released 4 more successful albums. In 1990’s the band went through serious lineup changes due to disagreements related to the music experiments. However, the lineup problems didn’t affect the band’s popularity and they continued to release hits and go on world tours. To date, Iron Maiden released 16 studio albums and 38 music videos. The band continues to record new songs and performs live.
