Journey

The rock band Journey was formed in California, in 1973. The current lineup includes Neal Schon, Ross Valory, Steve Smith, Jonathan Cain, and Arnel Pineda. The band is mostly famous for such hits as “Who’s Crying Now”, “Open Arms”, and “Don’t Stop Believin’”. The band gave the first concert on the New Year’s Eve in front of 10,000 people. The next day they performed at the Crater Festival, where over 100,000 people listened to them. In 1974, the band went through some lineup changes. A year later, they signed a contract with Columbia Records and released their first album Journey. The album was popular in the United States and Japan. It reached the 138th spot on Billboard 200 and 72nd spot on Japan Albums Chart. In 1978, the band released a new album Infinity, which was much more popular than the previous three LPs. It reached the 21st spot on Billboard 200 and was certified platinum three times in the USA. In 1979, the band released their next album Revolution. The LP reached the 20th spot on Billboard 200 and 100th spot on UK Albums Chart. The album sold 4 million copies worldwide. The single included in the album “Lovin’, Touchin’ Squeezin’” became a big hit.

In 1981, the band released their most successful work so far Escape. The LP sold over 12 million copies worldwide. It topped Billboard 200 and reached the 6th spot on the Canadian Albums Chart. The single from that album Don’t Stop Believing” received 5 platinum certifications. The band was going through some problems. After the LP was released, only three members were left, including Schon and Cain. In 1987, the band went on a hiatus and reunited in 1995. They released 5 more albums, the latest one to date being Eclipse (2011). The LP reached 13th spot on Billboard 200 and sold 110,000 copies worldwide. The group continues to go through lineup changes, which don’t interfere with their regular performances.
