Grupo Bronco

The Bronco band was created in 1979, in a Mexican city Apodaca. Initially, it was called Broncos Apodaca since it used to be popular to include the region, where the group was created, in the name. However, the second word soon disappeared because Bronco was shorter and easier to remember and pronounce.

José Guadalupe Esparza, who started his music career back in high school, created the band. His friends joined him to establish a group. Initially, the band played Chicano music, which was very similar to norteno. They also favored cumbia and ballads.

For the first time, the band was paid for their work when they performed in a small city of Agua Fria. They earned 50 pesos. From that moment on, Bronco started playing at private parties and weddings. Back then, it was very easy and cheap to book Bronco for any event. While performing at the clubs, the group was trying to find a possibility to land a contract with a recording label.

In 1980, Bronco signed a contract with Fame and released their first studio album Te quiero cada día más.

In 1985, the band recorded Sergio el Bailador, the songs from which became huge hits on the local radio. The album stayed on top of the song lists for several months.

The band was becoming more and more popular. The unique style and ability to perform different music genres brought the band international recognition. Bronco wasn’t just popular in Mexico, it had fans in Bolivia and Ecuador as well.

In 1989, Bronco recorded a new album A Todo Galope. The single “Que no Quede Huella” became a hit. After the release of the LP, the band went on a world tour and visited many countries, including USA, Puerto Rico, Peru, Venezuela, and Spain.

In 1993, the band landed a role in the famous soap opera Dos Mujeres, un Camino. They also recorded a soundtrack for the series. This role led to a new wave of popularity. The LP Pura Sangre, which included the soundtrack was certified gold and platinum in many countries, including Mexico.

In 1997, Jose Esparza informed the fans of his plans to pursue a solo career. The band recorded the farewell album La Última Huella and fell apart.

In 2003, Bronco came back on stage under a new name El Gigante de América. They immediately recorded an album, Siempre Arriba, which was fairly popular. The band’s songs were hits in Mexico, USA, South and Central America. El Gigante de América recorded 12 studio albums.

In 2014, El Gigante de América went on a European tour. In 2015, they released a hit single “Eso Me Gusto”, which made it into Top Latin Songs - Oldies USA.

In 2017, the band got the right to perform under their old name. They recorded their latest album to date, Primera fila (2017), as Bronco.
