Bashar Barakah Jackson, widely known as Pop Smoke, was an American rapper and songwriter. He was born on July 20, 1999, in Canarsie, Brooklyn, New York. Pop Smoke started releasing music in 2018, but he gained fame with his breakout single “Welcome to the Party” in 2019. Pop Smoke’s music was heavily influenced by New York drill, a sub-genre of hip hop that originated in Brooklyn. His distinctive growling voice and aggressive flow set him apart from other artists. His music often highlighted the violent lifestyle of the streets, but he also rapped about lavish parties, designer fashion, and expensive cars.
In 2020, Pop Smoke released his debut studio album “Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon”. The album was a commercial success, debuting at number one on the US Billboard 200. It featured collaborations with high-profile artists like Quavo, Future, and DaBaby. Unfortunately, Pop Smoke’s life was cut short on February 19, 2020, when he was fatally shot during a home invasion in Hollywood Hills, California. He was only 20 years old. Pop Smoke’s death sent shockwaves through the hip hop community, and many of his peers and fans mourned his passing.
Despite his brief career, Pop Smoke’s impact on the music world was significant. He was a rising star with a unique sound, and his influence on the drill scene was undeniable. Even after his passing, his music continues to inspire and entertain people around the world.
